Traditional media send messages, blogs start conversations. Or so I'm told.
If you're here reading this blog, it means you're interested in what OneVoice has to offer and that you may want to have a conversation about it. If both are true, I suggest two things: 1) Register for the OneVoice conference by clicking on the link on the right, and 2) Get in on the blog! You can comment on what we post by using the Gmail button, send us suggestions for what you'd like to see, and subscribe to be notified when new content is online. We'll be regularly posting information from speakers or panelists preparing for sessions and about restaurants and attractions in Orlando, from now until the conference begins on January 29. That day, we'll start some on-site blogging. In addition to "getting ready" information, our principal blogger, Shelley Lee, will be posting information and ideas on topics related to OneVoice's lineup of sessions, with links for further reading.
Since I do want to start a conversation among FSI members about OneVoice, I had a blogging conversation with Shelley, so here goes:
- I agreed to chair the 2007 OneVoice conference because ...I've attended FSI (and, formerly, FPA) broker-dealer meetings for years and found them to be one of the most valuable conferences I attend during the year. Not only has the educational content been terrific, but the opportunity to network with my peers is invaluable. This year, I wanted to make a personal contribution to this tradition of higher learning and relationship building.
- My goal for this year's Conference is . . . For you to walk away from the conference with good, actionable ideas that you can put into practice immediately.
- When I talked to educational track coordinators I asked them to . . . create educational content that is informative, interactive, and relevant to their respective audiences.
- Some of the speakers and sessions I'd like to draw your attention to are . . . the Breakaway RIA Challenge, with a panel representing broker-dealers, regulators, and RIAs . . . Workflow and Imaging in the Operations track . . . Regulatory Hot Topics in the Compliance track . . . and an interactive program in the combined Investment Advisory and Marketing tracks addressing various RIA support models.
- Our keynote speakers fit with the conference goals, FSI mission, and our members' interest because . . . Michael Treacy's topic says it all . . . "Double-Digit Growth." We're all trying to achieve our own growth goals and Dr. Treacy provides some interesting strategies on planning and executing an effective growth strategy. He will also talk about the possible pitfalls to avoid in a growth-oriented organization. John Kasich will share some insights on the November election from his perspective as a fellow business leader, on why it's important to be involved in the political process, and why each of us must stand for something. Read a brief interview with John or listen to the short audio clip. And be sure to check back on the blog later in November for some audio thoughts from Dr. Treacy.
So, welcome to the 2007 OneVoice Conference blog and I hope to see you in Orlando in January - where we can engage in some "live" conversations!
